Embodied Carbon Credit

The new embodied carbon credit offers an optional three-point HERS add-on under subsection R406.5.2 of the Stretch Code. This credit helps projects struggling to meet strict HERS requirements and can be achieved by using qualifying insulation or concrete with low embodied carbon.  It may also allow for cost savings in other parts of the build.

The concrete credit requires that at least 90% of the project’s concrete demonstrates a calculated GWP less than or equal to the values in Table RT406.5.4 which is on the reverse side of this page.  We have a growing list of verified mixes that we’re happy to share.

If you take advantage of the concrete credit – We can supply a form letter explaining the credit for the code officials in your city or town.  You will need the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) from the concrete plant and an invoice for the concrete.  The concrete EPD needs to be for the specific mix from the specific plant.

The insulation credit is achievable using dense packed cellulose or wood fiber (TimberHP) insulation in most of the house.  There is usually still room for some fiberglass, rockwool or spray foam as needed.

If you take advantage of the insulation credit – We can supply a form letter explaining the credit for the code officials in your city or town and a spreadsheet showing the credit.
